Well the garden isn't looking to shabby, I have gotten a lot of unfinished sewing projects completed, with a few more new ones to start. I have truly taken this summer to enjoy life, I have to, afraid if I stop, you know what will get the better of me.
Anyway, after a slow start of getting my bike out, getting over my frustration of not knowing what was going on, I have finally found enjoyment again riding. Due to the side effect of cancer and drugs, my legs do not want to do what I want them too. After nearly three years out from Chemo, some of the nerves in my feet and legs have decided that they want a rest thus causing me lots of pain and wanting to give up one of my favourite pastimes. Well guess what, even though I have the pain, I also have endurance, I head out about once a week and ride as far as I can regardless of the time and pain, two weeks ago I got in 25 miles.
Then mid July I climbed about a mile and a half on a nice path to one of the local caves here in SLC. Steady climb topping out at about 7,000 ft above sea level. Then two weeks ago, a friend and I went on another hike up the side of a mountain. This one was four miles starting at 8,000 ft ending at 10,100 feet, (wish I had a oxygen tank with me) I truly do not know what I was thinking even though it took me a while I made it to the top and we took the tram down. Truly I need my head examined. For all that I have done and for what I am going to do tomorrow. Another friend talked me into participating in a sprint triatholon. She is doing it all, the swimming, bike ride and running. I got two other friends, one will swim, I will ride my bike 12 miles, and the other will run the 5k.
Truly I am not bragging about that I am doing there is a point to all of this. A friend said that when you exercise your body builds healthy cells, well my tumor markers dropped this month. They had been gradually going up and they drop five points.
I am enjoying it all, it is just like when you go on vacation, you go and go and go then when you get home you are worn out. I may be doing all of these things, but I do pay the price, the body says, your are done and I am.
Life is short and I want to get all I can out of it, I know that we are all struggling with cancer, in some way or another at this present time, but isn't life great, beautiful sunrises & sunsets, oceans to swim in, (none where I am at) mountains to climb and rivers to cross. Now if I can just find the courage to go on a road trip - just point the car in the direction it wants to go and go. Maybe next summer.
Have a great summer and hope that this falls brings just as much beauty to you as the summer has.
Take care
Love to all

I agree life is great and my summer has been wonderful.
I went to Michigan the UP. It was awesome! We rode
bicycles around the entire island of macinaw. Pllus the
boat ride there is always fun. Then we went camping with
friends always a good time. Now I have a baseball game
comming up next. I have been having a blast.
I have gotten some sewing done too. I have joined some
sewing clubs at a local quilt shop. I am learning to quilt.
( I am better at clothes) I have made alot of new friends.
I know the feeling . I don't want to slow down either.
I don't want to miss a minute!!!
Thanks for sharing Mary! I hope all your days are
wonderful!
Love and hugs,
Cindy
Oh it sounds like you are having a blast and getting outside is great for all of us.
I agree getting our bodies moving is a good thing and it does make us feel better at the moment but I too pay afterwards but it is so worth it just to get out with family and friends.
I went the summer after chemo and climbed one of the high peaks here in Up State Ny it took me 6 hours to get up and then back down it but it was so very pretty up there at the top so very worth it. I want to do some more of them but I have a very bad back and don't know if that is a very good idea any more. That is one of the reasons it took so long last time and had to stop to rest a few times lol.lol.
But I like you love to be outdoors and see the world around me so that is what I do also get out there and do things because life is to short to let it pass us by. I love the fall because it isn't to hot or to cool I do a lot of hiking in the fall so here is to fall trips and outdoor fun. Have a great weekend angel hugs Roberta,
Not only is is wonderful to hear of all your activities, but you are giving so many folks hope and inspiration that their tomorrows may hold as much delight as their yesterdays!!
As for a road trip, head to Michigan!! Would love to meet face-to-face!!
Blessings and even more delights!!

PS..I am afraid I'd have to pass on the bike...In fact, just sold mine at my garage sale. Had to finally accept that my "intentions" alone will not move it out of my garage!

But I do think that perhaps the sweetest aspect we gain from such activities is the social interaction! I am a strong believer that too many of us tend to wither away due to lonliness! A truly "silent kiler" it is more malignant than any ailment...It doesn't just destroy the body, but eats away at the very soul. We need one another!!!!! And the more often we find avenues toward one another, the healthier we are in body and in mind!
So, I lift my glass to friends and outings and all those who share them with us!!
Blessings.

Today I am going to watch the grandkids while DD and and DSIL go out for a bit, then I'm bringing the oldest one back so I can take him to the beach tomorrow. There is a state park called Odiorne Point where they have lots of "hands-on" marine exhibits, so we'll spend some time there. Then we'll head to our favorite beach for some swimming and then to the beach's video arcade. Never a dull moment around here!

Went up to coastal Maine with the family this past weekend, lots of walking and swimming. It was wonderful! Lots of yummy foods too. I do appreciate everything a lot more these days.

Michelle, don't forget the little people when you hit a million dollar jackpot at Caesars
The theme of our summer was "Emergency Room!" The 7 year old had stitches, 4 year old had stitches, husband's 90 year old father had a stroke and last night this happened:

I'm not sure everyone can see photos - it's my 4 year old with a fractured wrist. She fell off a ladder she was trying to climb without her hands. The good news is that everyone is recovering nicely!
At one point in my life, I might have been in a big funk about this, feeling crabby and jealous of my friends that flew off to Hawaii or went on a Disney Cruise. However, interacting with this community has truly changed my outlook on life. Mary, you summed it up beautifully.
(((hugs))) and more fun adventures for you all!!!!
Haylen
I sure hope that your daughter is doing okay, oh how I remember the days that one of my children would come home crying that something hurt, so off to the emergency room we would go. It got to the point that I would say hang on, where are my glasses, book and something to drink, then off we would go. One time I made my son wait until I had my dinner, I had cooked this great dinner and he was outside riding his bike, crash, another broken arm. Such a mean mother I was, had my dinner, grab what I needed and off we went.
The broken arms and legs is all part of growing up, mind you, I have never had any broken bones.
Also, summer has been fun for me this year, I hope that cancer allows me to enjoy a few more.
Love to all
MAry
Hey, a girls gotta eat! Thank you for sharing. "Where are my glasses" is a frequent battle cry!
(((hugs))) and sugar smacks!
Haylen
Haylen, I hope things get better. Is your daughter grumpy thru all this? I know what you mean - I always try and put things in perspective and even laugh once in a while over some of the crazy things life throws at us. It helps keep me sane in an otherwise totally insane world!!!!
enjoy your day - a gorgeous one here in Mass. The sunflowers are blooming in abundance!
