So scared...

Hi. I'm Allison. I am 32 and a mommy of two sweet boys (2 1/2 and almost 4). Almost a year ago I noticed a small, pea sized lump on the underside of my left breast, kind of deep. It's not painful and as of today it's the same size. I don't have any other "symptoms" of breast cancer (I don't think) Sometimes my nipple gets itchy, but both of them do occasionaly and I don't even know if that's a syptom of anything anyway! When I discovered it, I kind of dismissed it cause at the time I was on my period and I thought it would go away. Sometimes I can feel it and sometimes I don't feel it. I was due for my annual exam today and told the dr. about it. She felt it and said it could be a blocked milk duct, or just a cyst BUT she is sending me for an ultra sound and a mammo next week. I am SO terrified! I have a problem with anxiety anyway and this is just so overwhelming. I can't stop thinking the worst! That I won't be around for my babies! Thanks fo listening.

Allison - (((hugs)))

Try not to worry too much, there is an 80% chance that your lump is benign. And statistically, your odds may be even better (the younger you are, the less chance it's cancer). It's good that your doctor is taking no chances and sending you to get it checked out. That way, you'll have peace of mind once you know, for sure, that everything is OK.

Try not to assume the worst - which is way easier said than done, I know.

Please take some deep breaths, try to relax, and come back and let us know how it all goes.

Allison,
Michelle has given you such good advice.
Also please ask your doctor for some anti-anxiety meds to help get you through this rough time. You need to get rest to take care of yourself and your two precious children.
We are here for you - so please come back and let us know how you are doing.

Thank you both for your kind words. It's so hard not to be so worried all the time but the dr. did give me xanax to help. I will let you know how everything goes. Thank you for listening.

Dear Allison, being worried about the unknown is natural...If we know what we are dealing with and what path to take in dealing with it, we have no need to worry as we feel we have some sort of control, In this situation, however, you have no sense of control and too much time to fill your mind and heart with gremlins and ugly thoughts!

I am so glad that you got something to help you during this dreadfully stressful time. Both members have given good advice...Breathing slowly in and slowly out, and repeating until your world begins to slow down to a more manageable pace is one of the best avenues! It is free, non-addictive and always available...and IT WORKS!

Please know you will be in our thoughts. And do let us know how you are doing. We care!!

Blessings.
Rachael
