Breast Cancer and Soy Consumption

I tried getting this question answered elsewhere and I tried doing my own research, but I need to know if there is any research about eating soy if you had estrogen receptor positive breast cancer? I'm a five year survivor who has been a vegetarian for 16 years. I used to eat a lot of soy, but now I'm afraid that the soy will increase my estrogen now that I've finished Tamoxifen. I had to go to salmon a few times a week for the extra protein, but I don't like the idea of eating fish. I'd love to go back to soy, but am so afraid right now. My doctor isn't very knowledgeable about vegetarians, so I feel I am out here on my own.

Hello, Katmommy I asked that same question at a support group and the dr there said it is not a good thing to eat if you have had breast cancer or it runs in the family. Because of the fact it can cause the hormones to go up and something about the proteins in it also I can't remembor his exact words just remember not to eat it or drink the soy milk. He made it very clear for me not to continue drinking soy milk to switch to almond milk would be ok for me. I have gone to a few other groups with different people speaking about what is good or not for us to eat after breast cancer and they have all said the same thing about soy. I hope that this has helped you out other then that I have not found a lot about it on line what you do find goes back and forth one would say yes you can and the other says no so I went by what the dr that has done studies on it had to say and the dr's I go to also agreed with him. I also don't eat meat and know how hard it can be to make sure you are getting everything you need in your diet. I wish you all the best and good health angel hugs Roberta,
