Hi Rachel, read your reply and decided to post again...sorry we don't have an expert from Duke on here too! I'm 53 years old and I was dx with breast cancer in 2000. I went for a radical mac. did 12 cmf chemo treatments and then had the reduction and lift on the good left breast. Later in 2001 I did the tram flap reconstruction and then in July of 2001 I was dx with bone mets, went for radiation then and a year later for more rads for pain control and was on Femara since Sept.2001...a good ten years went on and then in Sept. of 2012 I was dx with brain mets where I had a 4 cm tumor removed Sept. 7 from the back of my head and then on Sept.27 I went for gamma knife for the 1. cm tumor in the left temple of my head...I've been to Duke Univ. Cancer Clinic to see the specialist there and I will go back there for a brain MRI and a recommendation from their renown radiation onco. I know about what type of meds they are going to be trying on me next but I'm not much on the whole head radiation that they wanted to do in Florence SC on me and refused it...now the bc specialist wonders that the surgical site on my head should be radiated...so that's why I'm having the MRI at Duke and talking to their renown rads onco. Do you know if anyone else on this board has dealt with brain mets and what they have done for it? Looking forward to hearing from someone who has dealt with brain mets!

Thank you Haylen for replying to my post...I've just come back to the board at Rachel67's recommendation...Thanks Rachel67!!! I do have a pretty postitive attitude so SunnySherrie is a good name for me most of the time! I haven't heard anything yet from anyone on the brain mets but will check out the article you suggested. I do go back to see the onco. I see regulary this coming Fri. after going to Duke Univ. Cancer Clinic twice and at the breast cancer specialist's and rads onco. there recommendation I will have some radiation to my head...I have chosen to do full head radiation and will talk to the onco. this Fri. about getting this going for me...I didn't do it when it was orignally planned for me back in Sept. as I was to start Oct. 3 but after talking with a gamma knife nurse and doctor (had the gamma knife on the spot in the left temple area of my head Sept. 27) and didn't see a need for it...but after the Duke trips, I will for my own good do this for my own self as it's all I know to do right now. I still look forward to hearing from those who have dealt with brain mets in the past or are dealing with them now. Thanks! SunnySherrie
