The effect of chemotherapy drugs on children born after treatment

My daughter passed away 14 years ago. She didn't make after the second cancer diagnosis. After having surgery and a couple rounds of chemo she was told by her oncologist she would never be able to conceive a child. Well, guess what, she got pregnant against all odds. She had a great pregancy, but when the baby was 3 weeks old she found out the cancer had returned. Her son is a healthy 14 year old, but has a lot of issues as far as behaviour. Could the chemotherapy drugs she took have damaged development is some way. I'm not sure where to find answers.

I'm so sorry to hear about your daughter.

I'm not sure you can ever be 100% certain what causes behavior challenges in children. What is important now is that your grandson is getting early intervention and services to help him overcome issues and thrive.

Is he being treated by therapists or doctors currently?

Is there any way to get one of the large cancer centers to volunteer there services for this commuiinity. It could be a group who takes turns answering or directing people in the right direction. Present it as free advertising or a way of getting there message across. Every oncologist I have delt with has a pet project/passion, ie signs and sympton of skin cancer and how to protect your skin. Mouth cancer and how to prevent. The importance of seeing a dentist to discover the tumors in its early stages. I have surfed some of your communities and there are questions there that should have been seen by a doctor immeditley but with no expert on board the question goes unanswered. ie oral cancer. My husband has oral cancer that is how i ended up in the cancer community.
