I don't know if this would be related to celiac or colitis? Over the last year I have been getting flu like symptoms; severe nausea, diarreha, fatigue and weakness. I would miss a week of work each time. I never would vomit however. Then in September, I became sick again. Except this time the diarreha did not go away. I was going 12-15 times a day for over 4 months with stomach cramps. I get nausea and I get low grade fevers all the time.

My dr finally referred me to a GI after no tests or treatments were effective and I became ill again a couple of weeks ago. I had a colonoscopy and upper gi endoscopy a week ago, and the gi said i had colitis and would have more details when the test results from the biospy came back.

He also said i have multiple non-bleeding erosions covering my entire stomach and would send a biopsy in for celiac. i have had many blood tests over the last year and all were negative for celiac. I am now on a drug to reduce colon inflamation and one for acid reduction. i am still in the bathroom 8-10 times a day with stomach cramps, gas, nasuea, and currently have a low grade fever for 2 days.

The biopsy results will be back in a week or so, but it's so hard to wait. I just thought if anyone had some insights that might help, I would appreciate it. Just so you know, I also have severe migraines and fibromyalgia also. Thanks so much for any help you can give!

Lilymae, it's possible to have both an inflammatory bowel issue and celiac disease. They can be gene-linked. In the case of linkage, following a celiac diet can be of benefit to those who have 'colitis.'

The problem with the blood test for celiac disease is they are notoriously inaccurate. Many people can go years (!) before the disease will show up in the blood, unfortunately. There's a good stool test put out by enterolab.com that has proved invaluable to many who had trouble getting a true 'read' on whether or not they had problems with gluten/celiac. You can have the kit sent to you and find out for yourself without your doc's help if you want to.
