How do ohers handle food events? I have been to three in the past week - - at each I brought my own = for ease in travelling I make a good salad, an apple and water. At a local fair I cut up apples with walnuts and a bit of yogurt and carried foam bowl in bag with cold pack so I could sit and look like I was eating fair food. I would rather skip them at this point. Not feeling sorry for myself as I am glad to know what I have and follow the diet.
can't put into words but just don't want to be around other people eating normally. Any help?

Grammyceill, my husband found he had gluten issues (and dairy) about 12 years ago and for the most part we take a lot of the stuff he can eat with us. But within the last year or two we've found that restaurants - given sufficient notice - will easily accomodate him if we have a function we're going to. If we're meeting with friends, they know his food choices now and they will often suggest a restaurant that can handle different food options. We also turn to the cell phone apps like 'find me gluten free' to give us a hand with places to eat.

And think of yourself a normal just like everyone else. They now suspect that 1 in every 120 or so people have gluten issues, whether that's celiac or gluten intolerance. That's a heck of a lot of people with food issues! Big companies like General MIlls and others are starting to recognize that they'd better 'get on the wagon' and offer options.

Don't skip the fairs. Enjoy them. You might be surprised at just how many people might be interested in finding out what you're eating and why you're eating it. In addition, you could be doing unsuspecting persons a 'good deed.' Many people are in pain from gluten and other food intolerances and don't understand the problem. Their talking to you could open their eyes and help turn them in the right direction to getting help and getting healthy.
