Possible CD, to test or not o test?

After suffering with various symptoms for years, I decided to go "mostly" gluten free 5 mos. ago. (Meaning all obvious wheat products, along with trying to watch the hidden gluten). My reaction was immediate - no more bloating, lost 5 pounds, more energy. Just had my annual and told the Dr. She thinks I may have CD, since I still have some remaining symptoms. Problem is that I would need to go back to eating gluten in order for the blood test to be accurate. I will be extremely ill if I do this. Would it be worth it to be tested or should I just go completely GF and assume that it is CD?

Ask your doctor is you can do the fecal antibody test and gene test instead. They can be done via Enterolab.com. It's worth checking into it. You do not have to go back to eating gluten to do the stool test. If you end up finding out you carry the 2 genes for celiac disease, you doc may want to then scope you to find out just how much damage may have been done. But if you're carrying one main celiac gene and one gluten intolerance gene, or two gluten intolerance genes, you'll be advised by Enterolab to steer away from ingesting gluten, which I hope your physician would also concur with.
