Eight-year-old son stomach issues

My 8-year-old son has been complaining about his stomach hurting for a month. We've taken him to the doctor four times. He practically quit eating for about two weeks. The first diagnosis was a virus. The second diagnosis was strep. The third diagnosis was a test for celiac. The celiac came back negative, but he is still having stomach pains. He was given antibiotics for the strep and did start eating again. We thought he was getting over everything, but he has started getting a low-grade fever at school in the afternoons and we've had to pick him up about five times. We are at a loss as what to do. He's had blood drawn (and tested) three times, a sonogram, urine sample, x-ray and seen three different doctors. There has to be something that is causing this fever to occur. It doesn't happen every day, but when it does he says his stomach is hurting more. Has anyone seen these kinds of symptoms? For the most part, he is now playing more and acting more normal, but the fever issue is really worrying us.

I know the feeling. we have had the same problem with my son who is now 13. It has been going on for a few years. today we took him to an allergist, and he is thinking it is an MSG allergy. we are now having to write down everything he eats and we have to avoid MSG(which I just found out is in everything) so you may want to take him to an allergist and see if that is the same problem you are having. I know the frustration, just a few months ago we had our son in the ER with severe stomach cramps, they did a CAT scan of his upper and lower GI. They thought it may have been his appendix. they later told us he was the healthiest sick kid they have seen. You feel so helpless. I hope this will help you.
P.S. we have watched what he is eating and the MSG foods have been some of the food we discovered he was allergic too.
Good Luck,
Malinda

Chamberd, what specific test was used to check for celiac? If it was 'just' a blood test for transglutaminase, he needs further testing. And keep in mind that the tests aren't always correct, so you may want to consider trying an exclusion diet (after a full panel of blood work for celiac is done).

Full blood work should include: total IgA, IgA/IgG gliadin, transglutaminase, and a gene (allele) test.

Also make sure to check with all members of the extended family to see whether there's ANY history of celiac or food intolerance issues in the family.
