Celiac lab test

Hi I was wondering if anyone knows how long you have to be on gluten for the lab test to be valid. I had taken my daughter off for about 6 weeks, then restarted her for 2 weeks then had the labs drawn. There was only 1 marker + for celiac I am wondering if I had her tested to soon since you have to be eating gluten at the time. Any thoughts?

Thanks

For some people it can take longer than the suggested one week especially if the level of the disease process is 'low.' If you highly suspect celiac disease, you may want to consider a fecal antibody test which seems to be more sensitive than typical blood tests.

What marker was positive? If the transglutaminase marker was absent, you may want to check out the new study just published that says the transaminase 'markers' may be infrequently seen in low to moderate celiac disease.

I never did get a possitive celiac test... but after 18 months gluten free, I feel much better. Don't worry about the test just go off gluten for a couple months and see if she starts feeling better.
