Seeing the Gastro doc after being dignosed and gluten free

I have been diagnosed for over two years, going on three and gluten free. I have not been back to the Gastro Doc in at least two years. Is there any reason I need to go to him unless I am having serious problems. BTW, he once told me that it "would be ok to have some gluten once in a while because you are so hard on yourself" ! I almost fell on the floor. So I have not been back. Is he stupid or what?

Your doc's response was not the greatest especially if you've been diagnosed with CD. Gluten for you is basically 'poison' and shouldn't be ingested if possible. It might be a good idea to find a doc who does understand the problems associated with CD and have them on hand in case you need to receive medical care. If you need to go see a doc, go. Otherwise there's very little need (IMO) for follow-ups.

Thank you for your wise reply. I had a feeling that I should not go back to him. Sadly, this is also my husband's Gastro doctor for his Crohn's and he refuses to switch to anyone else or even get second opinions.
So I will just keep seeing my primary care doc for any problems and she can refer me to someone she knows.

I am currently changing to a new primary. The previous one was not getting it & chalked my miseries up to 'hormones'. Shame on her even though I like her, she is close etc. I much after all the problems I've had. The GI Dr. is wonderful & w/Celiac you need to keep up w/supplements to insure complete healtlh. This is my concern at this point after my yrs of going undiagnoised. GI Dr. sent me to a nutritionist who advised me to start Probiotics, a Protein nutrient powder & supplements (which the primary advised me in which ones to take). I feel like I'm still needing something so I'm changing Drs. Proactive for myself!
