Cholesterol after gall bladder removal

Had my gall bladder removed Oct 4. WOW! Great pain, but good, strong, consistant pain meds helped for 3 days before surgery, but not needed post-surgery. Docs. and nurses were wonderful throughout my stay. Several years ago my total cholesterol was 246 and had all the wrong numbers. Doc started me on Zocor, had success, but had side effects of elevated liver numbers so we stopped it. After having the gall bladder surgery and starting on cholestyramine, my total levels have decreased, but the HDL and tri's are still high normal. Some of the liver numbers remained high for about 3 weeks after surgery, but are normal now. Did the removal cause the better numbers or the cholestyramine? I'm also taking Bentyl for IBS symptoms due to loose, watery stools sometimes 2-3/day. The cholestyramine seems to help with the stools, but not always. I'm tired of going to the bathroom sometimes 3 times before noon. I would rather take the powder stuff than the statins due to side effects, and the cholesterol numbers are going down. Something isn't right because I've had the loose stools since my mid-20's. I'm male, 49 now. My doc and I are happy w/numbers, but could be better. I have family history w/heart disease. Any input or suggestions? Thanks.
