CHOL numbers

I've got Total CHOL of 234, ratio of 2.4, HDL 96, LDL or 126, triglycerides of 58 and VLDL or 12. Do I need statins?

The LDL is near optimum and the HDL and trig are good. As is the non-HDL.

While the total cholesterol is "high", but that is only a sum of the components.

If you don't have other risk factors (high blood pressure, diabetes, excess weight or a family history of early heart disease or diabetes) probably you just need to make sure that you maintain a healthy life style. That is maintaining normal weight, exercise and eating healthy.

If you have risk factors they you might want to get a ApoB or LDL particle count test (NMR). Those are more definitive for risk of heart disease than the cholesterol tests.
