So you want to lower your cholesterol. Your doctor has recommended you go on cholesterol lowering drugs and you are reluctant to start a new drug for life. What can you do?

Its really very simple. Calorie reduction and increasing the rate your body burns fuel are two very powerful tools. Good old diet and exercise.

Reducing calorie intake no matter where your calories come from is very effective. This is why they ask us to not eat anything for 8 hours before coming in for a fasting cholesterol blood test. Calorie intake prior to the test will boost the numbers higher.

I know this guy who went on one of those 700 calorie per day crash diets. He was amazed at how his cholesterol bottomed out. I don't recommend a crash diets they are unhealthy. But this demonstrates what can happen.

The solution is a sensible diet that avoids excess calories.

Metabolism. Increasing your metabolic rate, or the rate your body's internal furnace burns also decreases cholesterol. Good old fashion exercise is the best way.

Some people may experience a slow down of their metabolism due to a common health problem called hypothyroidism. When the thyroid gland fails to make enough thyroid hormone, cholesterol and triglycerides tend to increase. By taking replacement thyroid hormone and restoring thyroid hormone to normal levels, your metabolism will be restored to normal, and cholesterol will drop.

So if lowering cholesterol is what you really want to do, its very simple.
