The clinical significance of plaque regression has been investigated in an IVUS regression-progression study, in which 165 patients were undergoing percutaneous intervention for the treatment of CAD. Plaque regression was associated with a reduction of LDL-C following 10 months' statin therapy, and patients receiving statins had a lower incidence of new plaque formation (defined as cardiovascular event) than those not receiving statins.[40>
