Lipitor and Grapefruit

I take Lipitor 80 MG a day. I also like grapefruit. Understand that eating grapefruit or drinking grapefruit juice can cause Lipitor to be too strong and case damage to me. Is grapefruit completely off limits if I take Lipitor? I have been on Lipitor since April and did not find out about the grapefruit until yesterday. Any possible long term effects on me I can check or have checked?
