Thanks for posting, I find this type of information very interesting and is why I spend so much time working with people with heart disease.

Of the treatments listed, ARB's are probably the most effective and the one people know the least about. These work by blocking angiotensin-II ( a type of protien) from binding to its' receptor site, preventing blood vessel constriction and the secretion of aldosterone which is a hormone that basically helps the kidneys flush sodium and excess water from our fluid load. This allows the artery walls to "absorb" the force of each beat lowering blood pressure and the heart's workload. It truly is great stuff and is increaslingly being used to treat high blood pressure. The nice thing about it is that ARB's are much better tolerated than most BP meds as they do not work by lower one's heart rate like a beta blocker which can cause that lightheaded feeling that so many HP patients complain about.

Thanks for posting!

Thx for the extra explanation!

I spend a lot of time over in the WebMD Heart Disease Community - fascinating information and some great experts who put it into easily understandable language. Since I lost my mom to an undiagnosed heart problem, I've become extremely interested in my own heart and how to keep it healthy.

WebMd has a great Heart Disease community, I have a huge amount of respect for Dr. Beckerman, he has helped me on occasion both here and on another site the we are both involved in. In addition, there are some very knowledgeable members at the WebMd site, I have been very impressed with our own Bill, he is a huge help over there. I should probably post more at the WebMD site, but I'm used to the crowd "over there" and I am one of their founding members. If you go back to their first page of members you'll find me.
