If i am trying to lower my cholesterol should i be looking at the fat or cholesterol in food?

Neither. Reduction of calories has the biggest impact.

Conversely, if a person wanted to increase their cholesterol and triglycerides, go to your favorite restaurant and consume a 4,000 calorie meal. Now get your blood tested 30 minutes after, and you will have sky high lipid counts.

Without question, the most effective diet to lower cholesterol is a fad crash diet which deprives the body of needed calories. I don't recommend these diets that promote 500-700- calories per day. They are unhealthy and dangerous.
