Don?t Overlook Preventive Care

THE NATIONAL HEALTH COUNCIL
Myrl Weinberg posted:
All of us on this forum either have a chronic disease or disability or are caregivers for people who do. Some of us are both. Whatever our situation, our medical needs must include the basics — the preventive care services to make sure we don't get sicker. Come Sept. 23, coverage for preventive care will change. As of that date, all new health insurance plans must cover certain preventive services -- such as mammograms, colonoscopies, and blood pressure tests -- without charging a deductible, a co-pay, or a coinsurance. To learn more, visit http://www.healthcare.gov/law/provisions/preventive/index.html .

Patient organizations that represent your particular chronic conditions — http://www.nationalhealthcouncil.org/pages/member-roster.php -- also provide good preventive health advice. For example, check out the American Cancer Society information on early detection -- http://www.cancer.org/ .

To your good health.
