Looking for medical help related to a chronic stye. My doctor insists that warm compresses are a healing method. However, living a busy and stressful lifestyle, nothing has alleviated the symptoms so far.

Is there an equivalent of Kanamytrex (a German brand a friend recommended to me) sold in the US?

hello, A184 --

kanamytrex is not available in the united states; however, it is sold in germany. kanamycin (see PS1) is one of its main ingredients. it is a very strong antibiotic eyedrops/ointment that is used to treat inflammatory eye diseases such as styes (PS2).

other forms of treatment are warm, wet compresses and eyedrops/ointment, solutions, and medicated pads.

PS1 -- webMD info on kanamycin is at http://www.webmd.com/drugs/drug-8869-kanamycin Oral.aspx?drugid=8869&drugname=kanamycin Oral&source=2

PS2 -- webMD info on styes is at http://www.webmd.com/eye-health/understanding-stye-basics and at http://www.webmd.com/eye-health/tc/styes-and-chalazia-topic-overview .

hello again, B --

look for kanamycin, http://www.drugs.com/mtm/kanamycin.html , also called kantrex. the info at the above site states that it is given by injection, but the webMD site on this med states that it is also available in oral form (see PS).

this is a heavy-duty antibiotic; are you sure there is nothing a little less industrial-strength that you could use?

PS -- there is nothing of particular use at the kanamycin webMD site, so i did not include its citation.
