My Bard Power Port

Hello all, i would like to first start out by saying that i am 29 years old, mother of 2 and married to a wonderful man who helps me with my illnesses at every turn. i have chronic acute pancreatitis, and am in year 2 of dealing with this disease on a constant basis. it is caused by pancreatic divisum, a birth defect, compounded by 2yrs of lamictal use. i have been stuck so many times and had so many surgeries that my veins are no good now, and had to have a bard power port put in to my right chest cavity, through my jugular vein. during the placement procedure, i lost too much blood. this resulted in me having to have an emergency central line put in, to bring my blood pressure up by administering fluids. since then i have suffered from neck pains and chest pain, which recently got worse. does anyone know what these chest pains could be? also, ive had a constant fever since ive had the port placed- low grade- but still there. im almost scared to find out what this is from, but its gettting to the point where i cannot ignore it any longer. if someone could please help me....

Hi Kira. I see that susie margaret has kindly given you the links to our current Bard Port issues threads. I am so sorry to hear of your trouble. Since my Power Port separated and traveled thru my vascular system into my heart (during retrieval of the catheter after it separated from the port body), I have had episodes of TERRIBLE chest pain. I had chest pain during the procedure while the catheter laid across the valves in my heart (I was awake for the procedure)...it is a pain all it's own...and it's definitely "heart" pain. I said to my husband afterward, "well at least now I know what a heart attack feels like if I ever have one". The doctors told me, and STILL tell me that the reason for the chest pain is that my valves were irritated during my procedure and the heart responds with pain when that happens...now it's been just about a year since my port separated and I'm STILL having the pain? I'd like to know how long things stay "irritated". Sometimes the pain will be fleeting and last only a few minutes, and other times it will last for a day and a half. The last time I almost went to emergency, because it wouldn't leave and I really was afraid that l WAS having a heart attack. Please stay with us in our discussions. You have my heartfelt sympathy. I'm so sorry this has happened to you. Peace.

Hi all. I have been in contact with an attorney regarding a Class Action suit against Bard regarding Bard's Power Port Devices. I made contact with her throught classaction.com. We have been communicating by email, and she has asked for my research regarding the Bard recall of these ports back in April of last year and for my information regarding incidents with these ports at my local hospital. I did tell her I have connected with you guys here regarding these issues for support and information, and she has expressed an interest in getting in contact with you regarding your specific experiences with these ports. I assume shes evaluating all information and cases to see if instigating a Class Action against this company is a viable option. I am going to give her the links to these discussions and if anyone would like to speak with me or specifically wants to NOT have their information shared with her, please contact me directly through my email at tracyr2@comcast.net . Hope everyone is having good outcomes with their medical issues since we last "talked". Peace.

hello, all --

i have compiled a list of all of the threads i could find on bard power ports at http://forums.webmd.com/3/chronic-disease-and-disability-exchange/forum/979 . looking at these will give you a good idea of what problems are out there plus contact info for several of the people who have had problems such as yours.

i have also compiled a summary of the procedures for making a complaint to the FDA, http://forums.webmd.com/3/chronic-disease-and-disability-exchange/forum/980 (with extensive borrowing from one or two of the messages here, thank you very much!).

as far as I can tell, these two lists are accurate up to july 4, 2012. I hope they are helpful to you.
