Assistance with diability aids

I'm writing this for my mom. She is in very bad shape physically & financially. Unfortunately, we can't help her with finances. She lives only on $660 a month. She has medicare & medicaid - a very tight budget to say the least. She is in great need of handicap aids and neither medicaid nor medicare will pay for them. She managed to save enough money to get the elevated toilet seat, but is using a folding card table chair for the tub. She needs a bathtub chair, handrails, something to help her in & out of the tub, etc. Does anyone know of any organization that would pay or help pay for these items? Both of her knees are in braces, she's had a laminectomy of 5 vertebrae, a fusion in her neck, she uses a walker to get around - she needs more help & I don't know where to turn to get it for her. Any ideas?

I appreciate any suggestions.

hello, shelia --

here are a few suggestions --

i have some other resources, but many are dependent on age range, type of residence, type of illness or specific illness, etc. if you can send me more details, i'll be glad to send you what else i have.

i have two other ideas. one is to write to the manufacturers of shower seats, grab bars, whatever she needs, etc., and ask if they have any charitable programs to supply equipment to people of limited means. direct it to the attention of CHARITABLE PROGRAMS or PATIENT ASSISTANCE PROGRAMS.

my second idea is to write to the various support organizations for her illness (national cancer society, brain tumor society, etc.), and ask if they have or know of charitable programs to supply equipment to people of limited means. direct this to the attention of PATIENT SUPPORT or PATIENT ASSISTANCE PROGRAMS.

i hope this helps. i send caring thoughts to you and your mother and hope you will keep us posted on hhow both of you are doing.
