"Pain, Pain go away........."

I'm starting anew on an old discussion.......And just what does a person (like Myself) do when they are so tired of taking the pain meds, day after day, and they're really not doing the trick any more anyway. The person is not an addict, there's no "high' off the drugs, but weaning yourself off them just increases the pain. But taking them at maximum prescribed dosage still does not get rid of all the pain. And it's not psychological- no, my doctors tell me I have plenty of reason to be in chronic pain. But it's just no fun, and I'm getting tired of being a chronic complainer. Where else can I blog about this other than here? I hate going into a closet and talking to myself. If there is anyone out there who can sympathize with my problem, please reply. As they say, Misery loves company. I know there are other remedies, such as yoga, meditation, acupuncture, maybe others. Has anyone had any "Real" success with any of these? I would really enjoy getting some feedback. I know when you are in chronic pain, it's hard just reading these discussions, and much harder replying to them. However, I thank you in advance for your efforts.

hello, R --

you might want to check out the pain management community, http://exchanges.webmd.com/pain-management-exchange .

i don't know what the source of your pain is, but there are other communities where posts are likely to include pain as a topic, and you might want to look thru those also. you can find a list of them at http://exchanges.webmd.com/webmd-exchanges/pain-management-exchanges .

i'm so sorry you have to endure this constant pain, and i hope you can find some relief soon.

Hello Ronanngilbert--nice to see you post again, but I'm sorry it's because your pain meds aren't working any more.

I have fibro, arachnoiditis in my back from failed back surgery, chronic fatigue and some sort of arthritis not yet diagnosed. When the arachnoiditis was diagnosed, I was told I would need an implanted morphine pump and to apply for disability. Newly divorced, I wanted to have full custody of my children and I didn't believe a mom on morphine would look good, so I looked to alternatives.

I used chiropractic, massage, acupressure and physical therapy to make it so I could walk without a cane. Next I moved to positive visualization, Meditation and Relaxation for pain control. I used that with NSAIDs and exercise to manage my pain. I've been successful for almost 15 years.

I do have occasional terrible days where NSAIDs and positive visualization don't cut it. However, as long as I exercise every single day without fail, I do okay. How long I'll be able to keep going without something stronger--I don't know.

I do know I have never missed a day of work because of one of my chronic diseases or pain. I also know I was able to be a better mom to my kids (now grown) by going the "alternative" route because of how poorly I functioned on pain medications. My family always asks how I can be so positive, but there's no secret--I work hard at it.

I would suggest working with a Pain Management Clinic . They should have the latest techniques available and many of them offer "alternative" or "complementary" treatments as options in addition to traditional Western medicine.

Thank you to Dave for sharing your story. I agree with you on remaining positive. SusieMargaret, thanks so much for sharing the resources. I always smile when I see posts by the two of you.

Anyway, that's my success story. I hope others will share theirs.
