strange circle rash

cdhalm98 posted:
While camping last weekend I believe I was bitten by a mosquito or maybe a spider. I now have a large red circle on my forarm and pain in my neck and shoulder blades. I don't believe I have a fever, I have been on strong pain meds since last week due to the fact I broke my foot while camping. I am starting to worry as nothing makes the pain and stiffness go away. Does anyone know what a west nile rash would look like, I don't believe it is a tick bite as there is only a little red dot inside this large circle. The circle went from a quarter in size to softball size in a week. Any suggestions?

Hello cdhalm98 and welcome.

Wow, you really had a tough camping trip! You definitely need to see your doctor. The fact that it is spreading is worrying. I believe you meant to say Lyme Disease and not West Nile Virus.

Please look at slide #2 on this Lyme Disease slideshow and see your doctor right away. Whether or not it is Lyme Disease, it needs evaluation and treatment. I would not suggest delaying any longer.

Give us an update when you have a chance,

Did you ever find out what it was? We went camping and my daughter came home with same thing, started off a quarter size and now 3 times bigger. Doctor said prob just some sort of rash but got bigger.

Howdy Brigitte and welcome!

I'd encourage you to pursue this further with your daughter's doctor. Please look at slide #1, 2 & 3 on this Lyme Disease slideshow and ask your doctor if that could be a possible cause of your daughter's rash.

Whether or not it is Lyme Disease, it probably needs re-evaluation and treatment since it's getting bigger. Lyme Disease can have some pretty nasty consequences so I know if it were my child, I'd want to rule that out.

Let us know how she's doing,
