Fractured Mandible treatment

If you have a hair line fracture on your mandible, should they put a plate on it? Can it cause problems if they do that?

I have a plate because of a small fracture. It's causing a lot of problems. My dentist had to refer me to another oral surgeon because he said they should have just wired my mouth and not have done surgery.

The hospital told me at first they weren't going to do anything. Then they said they'll wire it shut for 2 weeks. Then they found out it was because of domestic violence and told me they needed to do surgery or my mouth would never work the same.

After spending 3 days in the hospital waiting for my surgery, my jaw was completely better. No swelling, I could open my mouth all the way, and no pain. They still did the surgery and didn't take anymore x-rays before, just the day I went into the ER.

My dentist thinks I could sue but I just wanted to know if they usually put a plate for a featured mandible. I had 2 surgeries to fix it and they refused to give me 3rd and told me my pain and problems with my jaw were in my head.

Hello Summergirl722 and thank you for posting today. First of all, I want to say how sorry I am that your jaw injury was due to domestic violence. We have some toll-free Crisis Resources if you feel you need them.

As for your questions about treatment, we do not have a Health Expert on this community. Even if we did, he or she would be unable to give you a second opinion without a review of your medical records.

If you feel your treatment may have been incorrect or improper, I would encourage you to consult with a malpractice attorney. First consultations are often low-cost or free, and a lawyer will be able to tell you what your rights are in this situation.

Let us know how you're doing,

Byroney
