Be careful what you tell your physician?

Last year I went for a colonoscopy after turning 50, which was supposed to have been covered 100% by my insurance company as a screening procedure. When the surgeon came to ask me a number of initial questions, I mentioned about having occasionally finding blood in my rectum. Based on that piece of information, the clinic re-classified the procedure as "diagnostic" and the insurance company then refused to cover it at 100%. I am now getting bills for $425 from the clinic, and my appeal of this decision to the clinic was denied.

So there seems to be a lesson that you shouldn't always be frank with your doctor. I know that this may sound like a lousy thing to suggest, but the fact is that it looks like it's going to cost me $425 to not have said that I didn't notice anything.
