Hi. I was diagnosed with fibro approx 15yrs ago. As many of you on this site can appreciate, I've gone thru the ringer many many times, with multiple medical conditions. My latest problem is severe pain on my scalp. Compared to all my medical problems this is on the minor side, but it's still bothering me. It's intermittant and may last only 3-4 days each time. It feels like nerve pain, and is very painful to the touch. It's not always on the same part of my scalp, and doesn't effect me when I'm sleeping, unless the effected region makes contact with my pillow. Brushing/combing my hair is very painful, but if I don't touch it, there is no pain. Apart from not touching my scalp, I'm not sure what to do about it. There is no rash/redness when this problem presents itself. Does anyone have any similiar problems? Can anyone offer any advice for lessening these irritations? It's been going on for prob 3-4yrs now. I have tried changing shampoos etc with no effect. Any ideas out there in the big wide world???

hello, M --

this sounds very unpleasant! i'm afraid i don't have any ideas, but you might want to post this also in the skin problems/treatments community, http://exchanges.webmd.com/skin-problems-and-treatments-exchange , and the migraines/headaches community, http://exchanges.webmd.com/migraines-and-headaches-exchange . you might also ask the person who does your hair if s/he has ever come across this before.

the only other thing that strikes me is that if it feels like nerve pain, it might help to see a neurologist. i'm assuming that when you say "nerve pain," you mean that it is sharp and stabbing rather than a dull ache?

does this pain feel as if it is inside your head (under the scalp) or on the skin where your hair grows, or can you tell?

i hope you can find a solution.

Hello and thanks for your reply. I will follow your suggestions. I'm reasonably new to this site and got a little confused as to which community I should post on. I do appreciate your ideas thou, as I haven't found those communities yet. I can see that once I get some more time, I'll have to immerse myself into the different communities on this site.

My hairdresser, looked at me as thou I had finally lost my mind, and had never heard of such a thing. Very good for ones morale! The pain is sharp and stabbing rather than a dull ache. It seems to come from on top of the skin, rather than under the scalp. It's biazare thou, as I only feel the pain when I do my hair, touch it with my hands, or lie in bed at night - when that part of my head touches my pillow. Basically anytime something touches the effected area.

The neurologist idea is also a good one, which I will bring up with my primary Dr.

I wish you all the best, and again, many thanks for taking the time to reach out to me.
