How to deal with standing too much?

prrprr posted:
As an attempt to limit the amount of time I am online, I removed the chair from in front of my computer. I have stopped 99% of my Spider Solitaire and surfing ESPN.com, and am now pretty much just doing work.

However, I notice that the back of my head, right where it joins the neck, is rather stiff now, and I'm thinking it is because of standing a few hours a day inputting data into my laptop.

Is there a recommended solution for folks who have to stand at their job--I'm thinking about certain exercises or stretches. I can sit, but I'd really prefer to avoid this, as the internet can be such a distraction....

hello, P --

i don't know about stretches or exercises, but i'm wondering if perhaps you could adjust the height of the table/desk that your computer is on. it may be that you are holding your head at too much of an angle because the table/desk is slightly too low?

might you be able to find (or ask your employer for) some sort of ergonomically designed adjustable stand for your computer, something like a lectern? for instance, in a google search for (ergonomic computer (stand OR table OR desk OR station OR workstation)), i found all sorts of interesting websites. the hitch is that this kind of furniture is not cheap!

here are a few websites that look as if they might be particularly helpful (i chose these more or less at random; i have no connection with any of these products) --

i hope this will give you some ideas.
