Group home for Chronic Fatigue?

Thoreau11 posted:
Hello all,

There doesn't seem to be much recent activity on this forum, but I just signed up, so I may as well go ahead and post this question.

Does anyone know of a group home for people with CFS? I'm looking for one, preferably in the Boston area, if one exists.

If one does not exist, I'm interested in trying to make connections and put together a group of CFS people who would want to live together in a mutually supportive group situation. If you or anyone else you know would be interested in exploring the possibility of forming a group home, please get in touch with me.

Thanks,
Jesse

Hi Thoreau,

I have wished for similar kinds of supports myself in real person and not just cyberland, although cyborg-support helps, or I would not be here!

When I read your post - wow, I nearly smiled! I don't mean to be disrespectful and I hope you are not offended, but the first images that came to mind upon reading your post resembled a Gary Larson cartoon in (slow) motion:

Group of say 12 people with CFS living in a old Colonial, a fix-me-up, but not fixed. 3 couches in the living room, each inhabited by sleeping people and a dog or cat or 2. They're slumped upon one another at all angles (mutually supportive)! 1 or 2 lay in beds, more pets and a parrot resting on someone's head. The rest in brain fogs or resting in the middle of a chore or activity.

Bits of one-sided conversations: Peanut butter and oatmeal for dinner? Can you set your alarm to wake me in 20 hours? I gotta meander the dogs.

Hey, if l lug the vacuum from the closet can you drape the duster on the TV? I gotta dust in 35 hours. And don't lock the door again when you're vacuuming the bathroom rug. Last time you blew a fuse and nobody liked peeing in that vase all day.

No way she's doing garbage! Remember last time she put it in the washing machine. The cats are doing the plants again; anyone change their litter this month?

Geez -- the visiting nurse? We should have never hired that narcoleptic. Are you listening to me? Phone's for you! It's -- zzzzzzzzzz.... Hello? Hello? Damn. All anyone does is sleep around here.... What parrot? We have a parrot? Oh, that explains the feathers in the tub. Sort of.

Will someone get the phone already? I can't get it -- it's all the way across the room! Anyone mind if I turn the radio station... oh, good. Because "______" puts me right to....zzzzz.

Please hang up. There appears to be a receiver off the hook. Please hang up. There appears to be a receiver off the hook. Please hang up. There appears--beepbeepbeepbeepbeepbeepbeepbeepbeepbeep

Dark sense of humor -- mine. Helps when I remember to use it. Thank you so much for sparking my imagination. You made my day, really. No, you really did. The day sucked until I started imagining the CFS/CFIDS home.

I think yours is a fabulous idea. And I have some thoughts on it. See next post for my serious reply. I do have one!

Hi Evelyn,

No offense taken! Thanks for sharing your humorous vision. I can tell you'd be a good person to live with! As long as you don't mind peeing in the vase.

Funny stuff I'm in NH. Not ready for that type of situation yet, lucky enough to have hubby and daughters to help out but thanks for the smile this AM. It was one of those nights when you are up at 2:30 and can't sleep....and now back to bed at 5:30....
Hope it's a peaceful, healing kind of day!
