Clomid for 2nd child...anyone else have this much trouble getting pregnant the 2nd time?

My husband and I have been trying for 18 months now. At 8 months we had a "chemical pregnancy." Since then nothing. Last month I had surgery to make sure that my tubes were open and that I didn't have endometreosis. Everything looked great. My husband's count in December came back normal. This past cycle I took my first round of clomid with ultrasound guided timing. I don't believe that it worked because I am having signs that my period is going to start in the next few days.

I know my doc. is going to want to do clomid and then IUI this next time. I just don't understand the while procedure/process.

It took only 6 months for me to get pregnant with my 3 yr. old son. I have never heard of any having so much trouble getting pregnant with their second child. Anyone else in this same boat? Any words of wisdom?

hi hun,
let me start by saying that I am sorry your TTC journey has brought you here.

I have a 2 1/2 yr old baby girl. When she was 9 months old, we started TTC. Now almost 2 years later we are still not pregnant. I had a chemical pregnancy back in April. This was my first cycle of clomid 50mg, so i'm hoping for the best! My DD (dear daughter) took us 5 months.

Did you gain weight with your DS (dear son)? I gained about 50lbs with my DD and that gave me PCOS which is what is causing my issues.

I just want you to know that ur not alone! I am in the exact samne boat! If you ever need to talk feel free to post hear or find me on facebook.

I will pray for your clomid to have worked this cycle and that you get the little one that you so long for!

hi,
i have a 2 1/2 yr old daughter an have been trying for the last 15 months to fall again.

Tried for 9 months thinking everything was normal as it had been easy to fall with our first. i have put on a few kgs resulting in pcos so my gp got me to see a specialist.
Have just finished my 4th round of 100mg clomid (3rd working month) and i think im pregnant. Have a very feint line on the test, so my fingers are crossed.

I had lost hope this month just gone and didnt want to be within 10 feet of my dh, so maybe the forgetting about it does work.
I know how hard it is to stay focused and positive, but now i believe good things do come to those who wait!
Best of luck with your journey and lots of baby dust
Emma

Thanks for your support. I only gained 22 lbs with my son. The doctors cannot give me any reason why this is happening. I find comfort in knowing that I am not alone. I hope that you get the little one that you are wanting too.

Emma - I hope that your test is positive and that your dream of another child has come true.

I am trying my best to stay positive. My doc. did a blood test yesterday because still no AF. But with clomid I have heard that your cycle can be longer. I won't get those results until monday. Fingers crossed that my first round of clomid worked.

Thanks for your support.

Omg. I am having the exact same issue. It's so upsetting. I SO feel for you!!

We had no problems conceiving our daughter-we just had the "if it happens, it happens" attitude and, it happened fairly quickly. This time around has difficult. We have been trying since August 2009 with no luck what so ever.

We just finished our 3rd round of Clomid with no success, and I have a Dr's appointment on Wednesday and I have no idea what my OB will suggest. My Daughter is already 3 and if we even get pregnant this year there will be 4 year's between our daughter and any (possible)baby that may come out of all of this.

Another bump in our fertility road is that My husband works pipeline so he is away-a lot. As it is we where very lucky to get 3 consecutive months of being on the clomid and trying. I just wish that there was some way that I could just fast forward through all of these maybe's/what-if's/and who knows.

I hope we all get bfp's soon and happy healthy children! Fingers crossed ladies

I am sorry to hear that you are in the same confusing boat that I am! My daughter is almost 3 and we were not even TTC when we got pregnant w/her -was literally one "opps" (but is, of course, our best surprise ever!). After she was born I developed hypothyroidism and even though I am now on meds for that, we have been TTC for 15 months and I just started Clomid (after a procedure to check my tubes, etc).

Anyway, my only thought is, have you had you thyroid checked? Now that I have been reading up on this subject more it seems like it is somewhat common that they thyroid interferes with conception (although this is also a poorly researched subject and thus the data out there is often speculative or subjective). Even though I'm taking Clomid now, I still think my thyroid meds will have to be tweaked before I can conceive.

It is actually comforting to hear from you and the others who have posted here that I am not the only one struggling to get pregnant with #2 when #1 was relatively easy. I am new to the clomid process, too, and trying to figure it out, too!

Blessings....

Yes, I am in the same boat too. I have a fifteen year old daughter and it didn't take long to get pregnant with her. However, I am remarried and now am 37. Thanks to Clomid I am ovulating again. Still, no pregnancy and I so thought I was this month. The Clomid side effects, like enlarged breasts, seem to be in line with early pregnancy signs, so I was let down last night when I started spotting. My cycle was actually very much shortened by the Clomid but the doctor said she can make it longer by changing when the Clomid is taken. The doctor said we will do two or three more rounds of Clomid, but then if this doesn't work she will refer us to a fertility specialist. The next step will be attempting to conceive in a manner other than the good old natural way. Dh is a little messed up about this and there are warranted concerns that it is due to his sperm. I think I may have finally convinced him to stay out of the hot baths and hot tub. I am not sure we have time for his sperm to return where it needs to be before the fertility specialist.

I understand the frustration. You are not alone.

Sorry to hear that your hubby is away a lot. Makes for TTC very difficult.

I agree with you about skipping through the maybe's/what-if's, etc. My biggest thing is that nobody can explain why we are having such trouble. I am trying my hardest to stay positive and keep focus on why I am going through what I am going through.

I start my 2nd round of Clomid on Friday and go for my initial US on the 4th to measure egg(s). and get the IUI setup. Wish me luck.

Baby dust!

Sorry to hear that you are in the same boat too. It isn't a fun boat to be in, but I agree that it is comforting to know that there are other people that are going through the same thing.

I actually had my thyroid checked back in 2009 only after a few months of trying. The more detailed test came back normal. So it is just another thing to check off my list of things.

I am also new to clomid. I have been ovulating on my on, but my fertility doc. thinks that I can increase my chances by "super ovulating." It worked last time because I released 2 eggs, but didn't get preg. This month I am doing clomid again but having an IUI done. Hopefully this procedure will work.

emmadundas78-Congrats!!! So excited, and happy for you!! I hope you have a happy and healthy 9 months!

mullins73-Yes, hubby being away really does make ttc very difficult, but we have learned to adjust.
My fingers are extra-super-duper crossed for you. I will check back often to see how your making out, and I will update you ladies after my DR's appointment tomorrow. I am really hoping my DR just agrees with me and works with me to fast track through this process a little bit.

Baby Dust to all!!

My blood test came back negative but I knew that before the Doc. called because AF came. I will start my second round of clomid on Friday and then go to the doc. on the 4th for my initial US to measure follice(s). Fingers crossed that the IUI we had decided to do this time will work.

Let me know how your appt. goes.

My fingers will be crossed for you!!

Unfortunately the appointment didn't go quite as I had hoped. My OB told me that my Dh's last S/A still was abnormal. She had talked to a Urologist and he wants DH to go on 6 weeks of antibiotics. He thinks that DH may have a low-grade prostate infection. This is not an easy thing to hear, mainly because, DH is always away and after the antibiotics we have to do another S/A and if it comes back abnormal still, he has to go and see the Urologist. Which again, is no easy task because it takes any where from 6-8 weeks to get into the Urologist off of a referral.

I had to give all of this news to my hubby no his bday which again was hard to deal with. So I had to fed-ex dh's meds to him so that he can start them a.s.a.p.

Another bump in the road is that DH is allergic to a lot of antibiotics that are out there and the last time he was on antibiotics they gave him an infection in his colon. These antibiotics that he is going to be on are apparently very strong-so DH is a little nervous to take them.

SO many things that just make this so upsetting. All in all, because dh is away and until we get his situation figured out, my OB will not give me any more meds or instruction until we get dh's problem solved. So, chances are it will be another year (or more) before I get preggo again.

Wednesday was a hard day, and I am sorry for writing a short story and just blabbing away.

Baby Dust to all you ladies!!!
