looking for stories using clomid verses femera

I am looking for personal experiences from those who used both clomid and femera. How did they compare? If your dr gave you the choice to go on a higher dose of clomid or start the low dose of femera, what would you choose?

Thanks and Baby Dust!!

I took Clomid for 3 cycles. I hated it because it made me crazy! I finally switched to an RE and he started me on Femara, I had no side effects from it. I had my blood drawn this morning to see if the Femara worked!

I would never want to go back on Clomid now that I have experienced Femara. There are no side effects with Femara vs the b&*$# Clomid made me!
Me-24 DH-37 TTC 1st for 14 months. 3 rounds of Clomid all BFN's. Switched to RE. Doing Femara, Ovidrel, Progesterone this cycle. 25mm follicle! AF due July 17/18. Blood test July 17!

I'm going to my dr this month, next week. She had mentioned months ago, that if clomid didn't work we would try femera. Do you know if it increases your risk of twins? I have a lot of twins in my family as it is, so I'm just curious! It sounds like femera really made you O. Do you feel like you had a more successful ovulation with femera as opposed to clomid'?
Me(25)DH(28)DD(3) TTC 2nd- 11 mos, 1st round of clomid - BFN, 2nd - MC, 3rd- BFN. Been trying naturally 5months, OB appt on the 23rd.

From what I've read, instances of twins with Femara are statistically at par with the statistics of women who don't need help TTC. With Clomid the chances are higher. Femara stimulates your ovaries directly, which differs from Clomid which effects a whole bunch of different stuff.

I like Femara WAY more. As has been said, no side effects whatsoever...except maybe a decrease in appetite during portions of the cycle. (Honestly, I could use that sometimes!) Letrozole is definitely the way to go (generic form). Make sure you call around to different pharmacies. I was quoted over $230 by my regular pharmacy and found is elsewhere for only $8.00! It definitely pays to shop around with fertility drugs!

Thanks! From what I've been reading, you're on a pretty high dose! Don't they normally start at 2.5mg? I know it depends too on your fertility issues. The highest dose of clomid I was on was 50mg, and I ovulated. I'm still not exactly sure what the dr will prescribe, but she did say if clomid didn't work, she'd push me on to femara. I'm getting impatient waiting for the dr. appointment. I'm always impatiently waiting it seems.

Yeah, the 7.5mg is pretty high. The 150mg of Clomid only worked half of the time, so the RE said we might as well start at 7.5mg of Femara and not waste time with lower doses. It's the equivalent of 150mg Clomid. On Clomid I didn't respond to lower doses at all.

I had my BW on Monday. Still waiting for results to see if I O'd. We had an appointment with my nephew's court appointed guardian, so I got my BW done in the afternoon. BIG mistake! I'm going to stick to my early, early morning BW from now on! The waiting room was packed with women ready to pop. The one woman who wasn't enormously pregnant was holding her ultrasound pictures and staring at them. On my way out, this one woman (this sounds bad, but you could tell she was kind of trashy) who looked like she could give birth at any moment was telling the nurse how she was supposed to come in a couple of weeks ago for a checkup and just didn't make it in. Ummm....what?! I left in a hurry but secretly wanted to gouge her eyes out. What an ungrateful little.....

It's hard to watch others be so ungrateful and uncaring about what they have, when others struggle so hard just to try and obtain what they have! It seems like those who barely try - or try to prevent it, get pregnant faster than we do! I have a friend who got pregnant with her third child on BC, then got pregnant with her fourth child with an IUD in!!! And they sent the IUD off and there was nothing wrong with it!! I'm like seriously?? You didn't even want to be pregnant...

Thank you ladies so much for the info. I am currently trying to make the decision of 200mg clomid or 2.5mg femera. The last two cycles I have been on 150mg clomid and the first cycle may have worked (8.5 progesterone at 6dpo and I got af on my own) and the second cycle (current cycle) I had no O with progesterone at .74 and 0.6.

I think I will call my dr and see if they will start me on a higher dose of femera since low doses of clomid didn't work. I feel like I would rather deal with the bad side effects of clomid at a dose that I will most likely O on, then do a cycle or two at a low dose femera and have high chances that it won't work and be wasted cycles.

Some women just respond to the Femara better than Clomid. Do you have PCOS? If so, Clomid generally doesn't work with PCOS patients. The 200mg of Clomid scares me a little bit. Generally 150mg is the top prescribed, though some doctors do prescribe 200mg. Both my RE and my OBGYN don't prescribe 200mg Clomid because of the increased risk of hyperstimulation of the ovaries. Just food for thought!
