Wasting time...

Hello ladies, I just need to vent. Lately, I feel like I've been trying really hard to be a lot more patient. I have always had regular periods and no fertility issues until being put on a certain drug, that I have to have and it would be difficult to change, and that's my last restort. Anyways, my pcp told me this drug can cause hyperprolactemia. Since getting on the drug in 2010 my periods went from extremely regular with regular ovulation to one period every 2-3 months. I also started having milky white discharge from my breasts. (sorry) Anywho, so they tested my prolactin level, and it was elevated at 67. They told me normal was below thirty. Well, I tried three rounds of clomid (big fat nothin that accomplished) but after the clomid they tested my level again (this is a new OB) and it was a normal high, 28. So they didn't want to prescribe me anything to lower the prolactin, thinking that it was not elevated at the time. After that test in March, I've had more periods in a row than I have had in two years! 4 periods to be exact- so I was hoping that I was ovualting on my own. So we've been trying naturally - we're on the fifth month since our last round of clomid. Though my periods have gotten longer and longer, the cycle lengths went from 29, 32, to 39, then 41 days long. From what I've read, if a cycle is longer than 36 days, you're probably not ovulating? And I've been having CM, but what I just read is that you can have the right CM, but still not O. So have I just been wasting time these last few months?Thats what I feel like I've been doing. I'm hoping my Dr puts me on Femara, she said she would if Clomid didn't work for us. Well, if anyone knows anything about prolactin (with the sudden irregular periods and discharge it probably really was elevated - so why was it normal when they tested again? it must fluctuate alot?), irregular cycles and ovulation/anovulation, you're input is appreciated. I really can't believe that in August we have been TTC for a year. Just amazes me!
Me(26)DH(28)DD(3) TTC 2nd- 11 mos, 1st round of clomid - BFN, 2nd - MC, 3rd- BFN. Been trying naturally 5months, OB appt on the 23rd.

We've been TTC 2 years now! When you spend years trying NOT to get pregnant, it's hard to believe that you'd actually have a problem conceiving!

I don't know anything about the prolactin levels, unfortunately. I would call your doctor and ask those questions. They get paid to give you the information you need.

Perhaps Clomid/Femara was helping you ovulate. Longer cycles may mean late ovulation or no ovulation at all, so even if you ARE ovulating, Clomid or Femara can help you ovulate sooner and produce healthier eggs. May be worth a shot to give Femara a try. I like it SO much better than Clomid!

Good luck! Let us know what you decide!
Me 23, DH 25, TTC 2 years,8 rounds Clomid, round three 7.5mg Femara this cycle, test 7/23

Thanks! And I've asked the nurse about the prolactin thing, and she didn't know. So these are questions I'm definitley askinng the doc! I'm really hoping that she prescribes femara.
I'm sorry you've been trying two years. That's just torture! I can't believe that it's been a year for us in a few weeks. I have known a lot of people that have struggled with infertility, and I never thought I'd be one of them!

I don't think anyone ever does. DH's cousin was convinced she was going to have a tough time and conceived right out of the gate! We had a friend in college, too, who thought she would have issues. She was close to having uterine cancer from another syndrome in college and had a few operations. No problem conceiving her first either. Then there's otherwise healthy people like us who struggle without warning. Completely unfair to say the least!
