    IUI and clomid
    An_247646 posted:
Hi I'm new to this but I thought I'd give it a try! My husband and I have been TTC for 1 year and 5 months. I had tried clomid for 4 cycles when my obgyn told me to see a fertility specialist. To find out I had a slight case of endometriosis and possibly a left blocked tube. Not 100% sure about the tube though. After finding out my husband had a low test he was put on vitamins and they are much higher now which is awesome news!! My doctor wants to put me on the highest dose of clomid plus an Hcg shot along with an IUI. Nervous about the IUI and hoping it works. Has anyone had this combination before and has it worked?! Thanks for the help, it's greatly appreciated!!

    Hi An_247646,

My RE is putting me on 150mg's of Clomid for CD 5-9. Then I'll get an ultrasound on CD13. If there's at least one follicle that's 17mm's in diameter, she'll trigger with an hcg shot that night an IUI on CD15. After that, I'll be using progesterone gel and hoping for the best. I'm on CD4 today. Starting my Clomid tomorrow. I'll come back and post to let you know how it works. But of course if I never get my 17mm-follie, then no HCG shot nor IUI will be used. Either way, this is my last round of Clomid. My RE believes that if a woman doesn't ovulate on 150mg's of Clomid, then it's a case of Clomid failure, and higher doses aren't even safe (exposes woman to elevated risks for ovarian cancer). I never ovulated on 50mg's nor 100mg's.

Rationale for the HCG shot IUI. The way my RE explained it to me is that high doses of Clomid dries out the vaginal fluids and make the cervix a more hostile environment for DH's little guys. So an IUI is needed. Timing is everything for an IUI, so an HCG trigger shot is used to make sure that I ovulate at around the time that the IUI is performed.

How about you? Did you at least O on the first four rounds? If you did, then there's hope!

**Me 30, DH 33, TTC since March 2012. Diagnosed with PCOS in April 2012. 2 rounds Clomid (50mg's and 100mg's) with no O. Starting round 3 (150mg's) on 9/10/12, with possibly an HCG shot IUI if one of my follies mature to 17mm's.

Thanks for replying to my post! Its crazy but you sound like the same thing I'm going through except with less things going on with you and your husband (low test scores, endometriosis). I did not O on the other doses of clomid that's why we're trying it with the hcg shot and IUI. Hoping it works because I don't want to have surgery and IVF maybe in the near future if this doesn't work. Let me know how the IUI goes, a little nervous about that. Good luck!!

I jad my first round of clomid in July and i also had to have an IUI i also had to have the shot of hcg to make me O, which i did but my cervical mucas was low which is why i had to have to IUI. I did not get pregant but at least i had a chance to get pregnant. i have PCOS so i was not making eggs at all but the clomid helped with that. i wish you luck and wish the best for you and your family
