Ovulating on Clomid, should I continue using it
solvemyprob posted:
Hi all,

I have been taking clomid 50mg from Feb 2012. My doc tested for my progesterone level in Aug 2012 and it was 12. Then she ordered me 100mg. I took that in my next cycle in Sep and I used OPK for the first time and got +ve result on day 17. My PL this time was 12.5.But my AF came today with cd of 34. I usually have 32-33 cds. Now my doc is upping my clomid to 150 mg. So my question (i asked my nurse but no answer) is since I see I am ovulating and increase of clomid increased my PL by only 0.5, should I take greater dosages now? Also I read taking clomid for more than 6 months is not advisable. Any advice would be much appreciated.
mrs62610 responded:
I don't know why they would be increasing your dose of Clomid because of your progesterone level. Usually if your PL is low they give you progesterone supplements. I would talk to your dr about your concerns, it sounds odd to me, but I might be missing something. Are you seeing a regular obgyn or a specialist?
Me-24 DH-37 TTC 1st for 16 months. 3 rounds of Clomid all BFN's. 3rd round of Femara, Ovidrel, and LP Progesterone. Adding IUI this cycle. Blood test 9/18
sproutkm responded:
agree my pl are low too and he kept me on 50 mg of clomid and just gave me a progesterone supplement. you should talk to your doc about your concerns.
solvemyprob replied to mrs62610's response:
Thanks Mrs for replying. I did talk to my nurse, she says me Doc do not prescribe any other medicene other than Clomid and the doc has referred me to a specialist. But this cycle I have to take 150 mg as my first appointment with the specialist is towards the end of current is strange why doctors do like this..I also asked the nurse isn't there any other test to confirm ovulation why are you keeping on prescribing me clomid..but same answer
solvemyprob replied to sproutkm's response:
Thanks sproutkm, as I said above in my reply to Mrs, I am going to see a specialist this month, hoping atleast he/she would help me in right way..
sproutkm replied to solvemyprob's response:
the specialist will keep a better eye on you. my obgyn was just going to give the clomid and wish me luck and come in 6 months if i am not preggo by then. but my specialist keeps an eye on me does multiple u/s through the cycle and gives me progesterone or whatever i need throughout the treatments you will much happier with a doctor who actually specializes in getting women like us preggo

good luck keep us informed
solvemyprob replied to sproutkm's response:
Thanks sproutkm..sorry its been a while...We actually postponed the appointment to this month as we had outside of country visits..I met with the specialist and he took u/s, sonohystogram and tons of blood test..waiting to hear from him..hope u r going good...

My results came back and my doc said everything looks good except the thyroid which he gave medication for it. For this cycle he has suggested Femera 5 mg a day for 5 days and IUI. I am still confused in taking medication for Ovulation as my doc said I ovulated this last cycle without medication but still he prescribed for super there any side effect of this? I am worried bcos I have taken clomid for 1 year now...please let me know...Also my doc said he wants me to do a is bit scary for me..any advice on that??? Thank you all...
mrs62610 replied to solvemyprob's response:
Femara is soooooo much better than Clomid! The only side effect I had on Femara was mild headaches for 2 or 3 days while I was taking it. As far the Laparoscopy, I don't have any advice on that. My RE said we might do one later one. I am now on IVF though and he said he would consider doing a Lap if this 1st round of IVF doesn't work. Good luck!
Me-25 DH-38 TTC 1st for 21 months. 3 rounds of Clomid-BFN's. 5 rounds of Femara, 3 IUI's - BFN's. Moved on to IVF. Egg Retrieval on 1/25 and 1 Embryo Transferred on 1/28! 1st Beta on Feb. 11th!!
