Anyone make their own homemade wipes? If so, how do you make yours?

I haven't made them before, but if I do end up cloth diapering I will use reusable wipes too. I've seen recipes for solutions to wet them with, usually with water, baby oil, and a little baby shampoo, but I know a lot of people that just use a squirt bottle of water too. Not sure yet what we'll do.

I just use plain old Gerber wash clothes. I don't do a wipe solution. Just warm water right from the kitchen/bathroom sink. Some people keep a spray bottle filled with water near by.

How many wash clothes do you keep on hand for that?

I probably have 5 or 6 dozen wash clothes. I tried keeping them pre-moistened in a wipe container but they had a funk to them so I decided to just wet one at a time.

I make my own wipes. I have about 100 wipes (I don't use all of them at once). This is what I do: In an old disposable Huggies wipe plastic box I put my wipes in them so I have them handy at my changing table. Then I make some and put them in a ziplock sandwhich bag for the diaper bag. I make my own solution. I use Burt Bees apricot oil, water, some baby wash and a drop or two of tea tree oil (keeps the musty smell from showing up). I fold my wipes in fourths dunk each on in the solution and squeeze most of the excess water out and place them in the wipes box/ziplock bag.

Here's a link to where I get my soutions from:

thanks for the recipe! What are your wipes made from?

sarahaguirre replied to janessas1's response:
Their made from flannel (not fleece like I previously said lol). They're double stiched on the edges. I have them in diffenent patterns, Sesame Street, Toy Story, Sponge Bob and other various patterns.

oh cool. I have a tub of fabric in my basement I should go through. Years ago I thought I would take up quilting and bought a ton of fabric, but then never made the time to learn it. Maybe I can find some fabric in there to use and make some myself!

That's awesome. I also heard someone say they cut up old recieving blankets and turn them into wipes. If you don't have any maybe you can find some at a second hand store.

oh yeah, that's a good idea too! thanks. I don't have any old ones, but our church is having a huge indoor yard sale over the weekend, so as long as my baby doesn't come before then, I'll look and hopefully can find some!

I do pretty much exactly what Sarah does. I have hemp wipes, though. I did buy mine specifically as wipes from my CD lady, but you definetly don't have to! I use olive oil for my oil, few drops of baby shampoo (I use one from lemongrass spa), tea tree, lavendar, and grapeseed extract (my kiddos get rashes really easy, so I use "super" wipes, lol). I make the solution in an old wipes container, then take about 20 wipes folded in half and dump them all in there. I let it soak up for a minute or two, them flip them all over so the REALLY wet ones now drip down to the dry ones. I grab a few and put them in one of those "to go" plastic wipes containers that you can buy that are rectagular, but only like 1/2" high, and we're good to go!

What a great idea! I used all the receiving blankets to make wipes but put aside the onesies (too stained to give away) to use as rags. Now I think I'll turn them into wipes as well!
