What's your favorite?

I've been using prefolds and thirsties and covers but I've found that lately I am grabbing the OS BumGenius. DD has nearly outgrown the small Thirsties covers and the mediums are HUGE on her. Plus she doesn't hold still long enough for me to fold the prefold and get it all on her. I love the flats but once again, she won't hold still long enough for me to get the Snappi on.

I am due with my first any day now and we have decided to cloth diaper. At first we thought the G-Diapers looked great and I even went out and bought a stash of smalls and mediums, extra liners, and cloth inserts! An the more I thought about it the more I hated them! There are 3 different parts to the pant; the pant itself, the liner and then the cloth/flushable insert! I thought that would be to much to hassel with in the middle of the night, plus our daycare is letting us use cloth and I figured it would be much harder on them as well. So I sold all my G-Diapers stuff and bought a bunch of the new Bum Genius 4.0 One Size diapers! I hear nothing but good things about them, where with the G-Diapers a lot of people complained about leaks and the snap in liners leaving red marks and rashes on babies skin. The Bum Genius seem so easy, just like a regular diaper, except you wash it! So I can't wait to get them and try them out on my baby, if she ever decides to come!!!

I'm due with my first tomorrow, and we're all set to cloth diaper. I've got mostly pockets - Fuzzibunz, Katydids, Rumparooz. I have a few AIOs - just grasshoppers. I just bought some Bumgenious Seconds that haven't arrived yet - AIOs and Elementals. I also splurged and got a few newborn dipes when they were on sale this summer - Lil'Joeys- which the are the cutest and tiniest dipes I have ever seen. I only hope she can wear them for a while!

My kids are both out of diaper now (YAY!!!) but my favorites were always a prefold with a thristies cover/snappi. My 2nd go to was BG 3.0. My only issue with BG's was stinkiness of the mf inserts.

SunConure replied to jlc78's response:
I have heard that is an issue sometimes, but have been trying to research ways to help or prevent that. Have you found anything for that yet? Also I don't know if it makes a difference but we have hard water also.

For our newborn diapers we are using the G-Diapers Tiny G's! They are just 2 pieces the diaper which has a built in liner and then the insert. They only go up to 10 pounds so I am hoping by the time she outgrows them she will fit into the Bum Genius ones!

I never found a way to permanently get the stink out. It would be good for a few weeks but then it would resurface. I tried boiling them, stripping them, soaking them, spraying them after each use in vinegar, sunning them, rinsing them out endlessly, bleaching (per their website), changing detergent brands and amounts. We have soft water, btw. I always washed them in the same load as my prefolds and I never had a stink issue with them.

Well...I guess I'll have to research it and work around it if we run into a problem. I have read some moms have issues and some don't, so we will see! I need to have this baby first, LOL!!!

I have OS BG 3.0 and have never had a problem with the mf inserts stinking. And I have let mine sit in the pail way too long before too. I think it's different for everyone. I always rinse on cold, wash on hot, and rinse (with some vinegar) on cold. We have hard water though. Maybe that makes a difference? But I have read about a lot of people having the problem.

It took me FOREVER to finally find a wash routine/detergent that worked for us. I use the original TIDE powder - luckily DD doesn't have reaction to it. I let the dipes soak in cold water for 2-3 hours, then wash cold, wash hot, extra rinse. They come out nice and clean. I could not get any of the liquid detergents to work on the BG inserts. They always came out smelling like poop no matter how much detergent and washes I would use. Hopefully this new detergent is working and not just masking the poop smell! lol!

I only have 6 OS Bgs and am getting really tempted by the 4.0 snaps. I also want to try an organic.... so many dipes, so little money lol.

That's interesting about the liquid detergents, I have been using the BumGenius detergent which is powder to prep, I am hopeing it works when I actually start using them. We shall see.

Do you have a top or front loader?

I have a front loader and am having huge stink issues with my BG inserts! I also have really hard water! Any ideas?

I don't have any advice for you since I just started with cloth diapers last week, but you may have more luck getting advice at the diaperswappers.com forum. That board is WAY more active than this one!

We have a top loader. Our baby is not big enough just yet for her Bum Genius so I am still waiting to use them and see how everything plays out.

I've been CD'ing for about 6 wks now and I've tried a bunch of different types. Prefolds and covers are okay but just not my favorite. I really like pockets, I have FuzziBunz, BumGenius, NuBunz, and a Knickernappies. The FB are probably my favorite and I really like the BG too; for the price the nubunz are great and work just as well for now, but not sure they'll hold up. I have a couple of g's and I like the fit and they are cute, but the velcro is horrible in the wash and the laundry tabs never stick well enough so they snag on my other diapers. And the plastic-y liner thing stains horribly. I have a few all-in-ones that I like for the convenience, but they do take an awfully long time to dry, and I'm having some fit issues with the BG organic AIO's that I have. I also have a couple of FLIP covers with stay-dry inserts that I really like so far. I haven't had any stink issues yet, but of course I haven't been doing it that long either. I do a cold rinse, hot wash with detergent oxiclean, then an extra cold rinse. I've been using Planet ultra detergent that was given to me, but will probably at least try tide or arm and hammer when that runs out as I have heard good things about those in other CD groups.

My little girl finally decided to make her appearence on September 14 and we had to wait until she could fit into her BumGenius diapers, but we have been using them about 2 weeks now and I love them!! We have the new one size 4.0's and they are great! So far we have had no leaks and they are super easy to use. I don't really care for stuffing them, but since they are so easy to use I don't mind! We haven't had any stink issues either, but it really hasn't been that long. For washing the first thing I do is rinse the inserts out first with the diaper sprayer in the toilet and then we do a cold rinse in the wash, then a hot wash with BumGenius diaper detergant with an extra rinse, I have also had to stain issues either. I have a couple G-Diaper's but have yet to use them.
