im 53 years old, these started when I was 16 or so, the dr then told me my headaches were caused by low blood sugar, so when I got one I should eat something. I did that for years. finally when I was 28 I got a cluster so bad that I went to the doctor on the island we lived on at the time. he only came once a week, but he diagnosed me right off. he sent me for a cat scan in petosky on the mainland, and then told me to not suffer anymore, to come in for a shot of Demerol when I got a headache, problem here he only came to the island on Tuesdays, so pretty much screwed on the pain relief part because the other person who staffed the med center on the island pretty much thought I was a drug seeker and made me feel like a junky every time I went for relief. so I tried going only when they were really bad. when we moved off the island I dealt with the various assortment of medical professionals who prescribed blood pressure medicine, some kind of medicine that went up your nose (made me sick to my stomach) a self injectable which I also had a bad reaction to, you guys know the drill,, nothing kept them from coming, and nothing they gave me worked once they were here to stop the pain, my only option has always been a trip to the er, which I associate with both torture and relief, sometimes you get lucky and the dr gives you something strong enough to knock you out for awhile. then they stopped. I didn't have a bad one for over ten years. well they are back, for 28 of the past 32 days I have had 2 or more a day, waking me around 1 am again around 2:30 and again at 4, if I allow myself to try to sleep again that is, they stay at bay pretty much throughout the day, I feel the tightening and them waiting just behind my eye, but haven't had many daytime headaches bad enough to bring me to my knees, oh but nighttime makes up for that you bet, I have spent my month praying to a god I don't believe in to please make it stop, but you guessed it, they just keep coming, but I don't have medical insurance so again my only option has been the er. I was looking forward to my coverage beginning as my husbands employer just started coverage the Obama thing and all that, they deducted money from his check so I decided to call the neurologist the er had instructed me to contact after my last visit on the 17th of dec. so today after a triple header that left me with about 2 hours of sleep and heading into day 33 I called to make the apt. they needed insurance info tho, so I called my husbands work, I was informed that he had not signed up the both of us, I am not covered. im laughing and im crying cuz ha ha aint life grand..so what do you recommend I do? anyone, please don't say anything stupid like oxygen therapy or push-ups. I know im being a bitch right now but really really hopeless here and I cant take much more. I take care of my parents who are both 87 and frail and I cant stop doing that to go get a job so I can get my own insurance. I will try any street drug therapy that will work I would take the left eye out and toss it if it would work, which sometimes I think might cuz then the pain could get out from behind that damn left eye,

I am an active member of clusterheadache.com, and I swear that site has saved my life. If you check out the site thoroughly you will find info on this:
An anti inflammatory regimen of of vitamins. All over the counter stuff (although the pharmacies don't stock the high doses needed, so I buy mine from iherb.com). It consists of very large doses of vit D3, with calcium, magnesium and fish oil. All these components are important as the D3 will draw calcium and magnesium from the bones if taken on it's own, and D3 is fat soluble so the fish oil helps it to be absorbed.
I take 15000 (not a typo) international units of D3 per day, along with 1000mg fish oil, 500mg calcium and 400mg magnesium.
This concoction has proved to be effective for over 80% of people who have tried it, with many being totally pain free after a life time of chronic CH. But, it is VITAL that you have your blood tested as you can overdose on D3, although the level at which overdose occurs is way above what I take. You need to have your blood tested regularly, as D3 builds up and you need to be just below the toxic level for it to be effective. My doctor is on board with this and tests my blood regularly, and is happy for me to take it. It has taken Clusterheadaches.com by storm. If you join the site you will find numerous threads about it on the discussion boards, but if you ask, some one will come along and give you better details than I have. Personally, I am not completely pain free but my attacks are now much less frequent, and and VERY much lower in intensity. They are bearable now and the difference is amazing.
Abnother tip : At the very first sign of pain, before it really takes hold, drink down an energy drink really fast. Try red bull or moster. It's the combination of caffiene and taurine, in a sudden hit that does the trick, so any drink with those ingredients will do. Read the back of the can or bottle. It doesn't work for every one (nothing does) but does help many people.
Hope this helps.
