100% Relief for me
carlwilliams254 posted:
I've been free of these terrible headaches for years now. Ever since taking an SSRI (serotonin reputable inhibitor)' specifically Sertraline HCL, a drug normally prescribed for anxiety/depression.

It's pretty benign in that it simply maintains a higher concentration of serotonin and clinical studies seem to support it's beneficial effects . (sorry no references).

So for me, no clusters in all the years I've been taking it. I find it a great alternative to Imitrex, which also works wonders but it's pretty heavy-duty!!!!!

Cheers to all.

I agree about the serotonin factor. I've found that taking amitriptyline got me over my first bout (20mg night) and it took about 2 months to begin to work after several months of a chronic headache and nerve pain and swelling (None of the other treatments worked for me (nerve blocks, botox injections--I tried a lot.) I've had to continue on the Amitriptyline medication for 5 years although I hate the weight gain with this drug. If I try to go off this Rx, the headaches come back. I was headache free with the cluster-type one-sided headache for 5 years (excluding the occasional migraines that lasted a day treated with Imitrex) until I got another bout 2 months ago--scary with terrible one-sided head pain everyday. To combat this monster, I added 3 mg of melatonin at night along with my amitriptyline, made sure I got plenty of sleep, added vitamin D3, higher dose b12 lozenges with methylcobalamin, and when my head was hot like a poker, used natural capsaicin cream on the top my head and rubbed a tiny bit on the inside of my nose on the side of my head that hurt. I can never drink alcohol during these bouts. I gradually got better, and as of today, cross my fingers, am pain free with the cluster-type headache, and now know what to try if it strikes again. If any of this information can benefit just one person, it is worth writing, as this is a horrible condition.
Good luck to all sufferers!
