I started Flonase yesterday. No improvement yet-how long should it take to start to feel improvement?
Also, going to Allergist today.
Would Flonase break up mucus in nose?
As i have said, I feel that there is somuch mucus in nose and I taste it and feel like it is clogging ears- I am so uncomfortable and don't know what to do about this anymore.
As I said catscan showed minimal thickening of mucoosal lining in nose-does that mean inflammation and thefore, Flonase should help?
Thank you

Every person is different, but ONE DAY of Flonase is not going to be a miraculous improvement. You may need to take this medication for a month or more, but I really have no way of knowing when (or even IF) Flonase is going to help your on-going issues with your nose.

Went to allergist today-did skin test-needles under skin-showed allergy to dust mites.
Told me to take Flonase with Astepro for a month.
Could allergy to dust mites cause this mucus and ear problem?

Ears looked fine, nose looked like someone who has allergies. Throat looked fine.

Do you think this could possibly be the cause of all this?
Don't know what it has to do with Gerd, though and
Are the side effects, like drowisness and nose bleeds common with these two? Pharmacist said No because very little gets absorbed in blood stream?

Thanks.

Rod Moser, PA, PhD replied to tinakep's response:
Allergies....to anything....can cause an increase in mucous. I don't know if your newly-diagnosed allergies to dust mites is the smoking gun or not.

Dust mite allergies would not be related to GERD.

Flonase has the potential of causing nosebleeds, but that does not mean it will cause them in you. You are not likely to get drowsiness from either one of these medications.

Do you think there is a good possiblity that this is the cause?
Are these 2 good medicines to be on for this?
Are they safe to be on for a month?

Thanks

Rod Moser, PA, PhD replied to tinakep's response:
Tina...your doctor is treating you. If you do not feel these medications are appropriate, you need to discuss it with him. My opinion is really not important when it comes to your treatment. I am not your doctor, so I am not going to speculate if your mite allergy is the cause or root of all of your problems.

Your medications are safe to use for a month, and yes, they are appropriate for allergies.

Well, I just would like to know if allergies to dist mites COULD cause my symptoms?

Is this a serious allergy? I am upset about it.

Thanks

Rod Moser, PA, PhD replied to tinakep's response:
Pollen...weeds....trees....mold....or dust mites, and a few thousand other things in our environment, ALL can cause allergic responses in some people. The seriousness of the response is not in the allergen, but rather the person's response to the allergen. Some people can die from a beesting, while other just get an itchy spot.

I don't know why you are so upset about having a dust mite allergy. Millions...tens of millions...of people share your common allergy.

Yes, any allergy...including a dust mite allergy...has the potential of causing some of your symptoms. Just because it can, doesn't prove that it is the sole cause.

I am not so upset about the dust mite allergy, but the symptoms have been going on for a year (along with GERD)
and I hope this treatment is effective.

And, if this is not the sole cause, can this treatment still help? I don't know what else it could be after all the tests I have been through and this time got a positive reaction.

Dust Mite allergies can cause post nasil drip and ear clogging and popping?

Thank you

Rod Moser, PA, PhD replied to tinakep's response:
ANY allergy can cause post nasal drip and ear popping or clogging. In order to judge the effectiveness of a treatment requires that you actually adhere to the treatment plan for a sufficient amount of time. I would think that a month or two would be an appropriate trial, but that decision would be up to you and the doctor who is treating you.

Do you have to start with these medications-nasal sprays in order for the inflammation to go away-or is it possible to just first try to avoid-like using a vacuum with a HEPA filter, allergy proof mattress and pillows, wash sheets in HOT water?
Or Once you have the inflammation in nose, only way to get rid of it is to use these sprays?
(Of course, I always want to try things without meds first, but I am on the3rs day of using these sprays)

Thank you

Rod Moser, PA, PhD replied to tinakep's response:
It has only been three days, and you are already questioning the medications???? Your doctor is trying to help you, so please give it a try. If you want to do the allergy-proofing, then go for it....do BOTH, but don't abandon one for the other.

Is there any possibility that the GERD made the allergy come on? I mean I just don't understand how I could have BOTH of these at the same time. It does not make sense-it sounds like these symptoms would all be related.

Also, could you tell me if people have to stop the nasal steroids for nosebleeds? I worry about getting these, but I want to stick out the whole month using both of these,
and also do BOTH cause them-Flonase and Astepro or just one?

Thank you

Rod Moser, PA, PhD replied to tinakep's response:
GERD does not cause allergies, and a person can have two...three...or even more problems all at the same time, with many of them causing the same (cross-over) symptoms. They don't stand in line and wait until one goes away before the next problem starts. Many people have GERD and allergies at the same time, whether it makes sense to you or not.

You will need to read the drug information on Flonase and Astepro so you will be familiar with how they work. Just put "Flonase and Drug Information" in your Search Engine. You will find the information about nosebleeds. You are still waiting for side effects that may not happen. I would suggest that you just follow your doctor's treatment plan and stop worrying so much about things that may or may not occur.
