Clicking noise in my ear when I speak

Hi,
Two months ago I woke up after attending a concert the night before and I could hear a clicking noise every time I spoke. I have a history of slight tinnitus but have always worn ear plugs to concerts ever since.

I have been to an ENT twice and on the second occasion he said he could hear the clicking noise for the first time. He used a camera to look down through my nose and said I had a "groove" near the soft palate (i think?) which is creating a bubble that pops every time I speak. He said there was nothing that could be done about it but thought it would gradually go away.
He didn't think it had anything to do with the concert, but I strongly feel the two are related somehow.

The clicking noise doesn't happen when I am laying on my back or when I say certain words like "nine".

It's been more than two months now and I'm pretty stressed out as I'm about to start a new job and am worried about other people hearing it while I'm speaking. I think the clicking noise has gotten louder of time.

Does anyone have any advice, or has anyone heard of this happening before?

Thanks very much.

Rod Moser, PA, PhD responded:
Get an ENT "second opinion". Just because one ENT could not find a reason or a solution to your clicking problem, does not mean that you do not have a problem. Clearly, if you are still having symptoms, you need to be checked again.

As much as I would like to help you, without knowing your medical history and having a way of examining you, I would just be blindly guessing. My first inclination would be ETD - Eustachian Tube Dysfunction, but I don't have a clue what your first ENT meant by a "bubble in a groove near your soft palate". Sorry.
