Problems following Balloon Sinuplasty

Toms119 posted:
had balloon sinuplasty on both maxillary sinuses and one frontal sinus, also I had turbinate reduction on the turbinate in both sides of my nose. They had to drill through my mouth to get to one of the maxillary sinuses.

My face still feels inflamed, pressure from that and quite tired (drowsy)

They can't do a cat scan yet because they say they won't be able to see anything if its inflamed and its normal procedure to wait 3 months before doing follow up cat scan, I'm guessing because the inflammation lingers.

Is the inflammation normal I can only find "patient stories" online from balloon sinuplasty nothing that is informative

I have been on a round of augmentin (10 days) and Avelox (10 days) with no help, I'm also on an antihistamine for my allergies (xyzal) and nasonex.

I still feel pressure in my face but theres not like the white or yellow mucus or the pain being that bad of a bad sinus infection but the pressure and pain is still there and my doctor says its inflammation following the surgery.

How long until this inflammation goes away so i can feel 100%? I can breath through my nose so its all successful but I thought it was a sinus infection when really its just bad inflammation... which antibiotics do nothing for.

If its any help, my symptoms do improve 50% when i take advil cold and sinus, but they do not improve with the regular ibuprofen.

If its still inflamed then that covers my symptoms (facial pressure on cheeks above eyes and forehead sinuses, headache and fatigue),

I am taking arnica, yet ibuprofen an NSAID dosent make me feel better so it may not be inflammation.

My ENT told me no infection

First, you need to understand that I do not know anything about you or your case, or have any way of reviewing your medical records or examining you. Any comments that I make would thus be general, and not specific to your particular problems. I don't know when you had your surgery...

It is not uncommon for anyone to have post-surgical inflammation, or inflammation from a lingering infection (even though your ENT said "no infection"). If you did not have an infection, then why did you have two courses of antibiotics?

If you are 50% better on Advil (ibuprofen) cold and sinus (a decongestant), then does you ENT have any issues of you taking it? Has your ENT considered using same nasal corticosteroid sprays for the inflammation.

I have not heard of that three month rule for post-surgical CT scans...personally, if you need one to see what is going on in your sinuses, then it can be ordered.
