Vibration in my ear

An_246257 posted:
I had a very nasty ear infection over a year ago and after two days of intense pain, my eardrum perforated. This resulted in complete hearing loss in the affected ear for around a week. A follow up appointment at my GP confirmed that it looked to have healed well but from time to time I get a blocked sensation in that ear and a very dull 'vibrating' sensation that is only noticeable when there is silence. I have no pain and, as far as I am aware, my hearing is ok now. Any advice?

Rod Moser, PA, PhD responded:
Based solely on the brief information you have shared, and without the ability to examine you and getting a full medical history, you are probably having intermittent issues with your Eustachian tubes. Perhaps that is the reason why you developed that severe infection in the first place. There are many ways to manage ETD (Eustachian Tube Dysfunction) if your GP or an ENT confirms the diagnosis, but I would not blindly know which method would be appropriate for you.

If you can, see an ENT for some patient-specific advice.
