Rod Moser, PA, PhD responded:
Perhaps it is time to see a different ENT for a second opinion. Unfortunately, since I do not know anything about you, your case, or have any way of examining you, I cannot offer you any patient-specific advice.

Hi, thank you my hearing test showed high frequency hearing loss, moderate, in my right ear, mild in left, I have a MRI scheduled for Tuesday. the right tube is still a little swollen could that make my ear feel heavy with the high pitch ringing. i also have in the past my mri showed new bilateral shenoid and ethmoid sinus mucccsal thinking, i also have a rathkes cleft cyst,
hypothyroidism pituitary tumor. the ent during the ear infection stated tymapnic membrane is injected erythematous bulging. but he did nothing, could this be why is is taking so long to heal or feel ok, like i said it still feels clogged and when i pull my temple up i can hear better, could any of this be the cause, help not knowing if this will get better is driving me nuts.

Rod Moser, PA, PhD replied to jamielee66's response:
A bulging, red (erythematous) tympanic membrane is half of the criteria for a middle ear infection. The other half is a determination of fluid in your middle ear. If you have both of these things, and your eardrum is not moving properly, I am surprised that your ENT "did nothing".

As you know, I have no way of examining your ear from this end of the Internet in order to give you an opinion.I really feel your ENT should examine your ears again...things can change over time.

did he said both ears looked better, i asked him for the MRI because i still really can not hear out of right ear and ringing, my GP ordered the MRI, hopefully some one will help the ENT informed me to just come back in eight months, but i did not agree with his answer, hopefully i will find help.

Rod Moser, PA, PhD replied to jamielee66's response:
Sadly, most MRIs are more helpful in ruling out the "bad things", than to make a diagnosis. Most MRIs tend to be normal, but let me know how yours turns out....

hi, should i get a CT, would that possibly show bone damage as well nerve damage?

Rod Moser, PA, PhD replied to jamielee66's response:
That is up to your ENT to decide, but an CT scan does not visualize nerves, but it can show bone damage in the mastoid area for instance.

jamielee66 replied to Rod Moser, PA, PhD's response:
if the ringing and loss of hearing was caused by the middle ear infection, could it take awhile after the infection for the ear to heal

Rod Moser, PA, PhD replied to jamielee66's response:
Most middle ear infections heal. Severe middle ear infections can cause significant inflammation, so some of the related symptoms may last a while longer, but you will still heal just fine.

thank you so much for being there for me, it has really been hard, god bless you and your family, and again thank you for taking the time to deal with me and so many others. i believe they had infromed me that i had a double ear infection in both ears, inner, and middle, and this could take a while to heal. And yes it was severe..

You are very welcome. And, let me know if I can help you again.

Just have a question, went to my GP today. left ear still has fluid, should i find a new ENT to drain it, its been a month in a half, , the ringing has died down i believe it is because of some of the fluid gone. He said i have Eustachian tube dysfunction. will getting the fluid out will that help?.

Rod Moser, PA, PhD replied to jamielee66's response:
That fluid may last for a while. In children, we allow up to three months for it to naturally resolve, but in adults, it depends on the mobility of your eardrum. Did the GP blow air in your ear through a little bulb syringe? This is called a pneumatic otoscopy...a very essential part of the exam that many medical providers skip for some reason. Did he check your hearing?

Having an ENT evaluate this fluid would be advised since it seems to be persistent. This fluid is most likely caused by Eustachian tube dysfunction, but removing it will not automatrically "cure" this underlying "plumbing and ventilation" issue. In a worse case scenerio, tubes will be inserted if the fluid remains much longer.

could the fluid also cause hearing loss and ringing in my ear,
