Rod Moser, PA, PhD responded:
You should inform your son's medical provider. Draining blood and pus usually means that his eardrum has ruptured due to the infection. While this may sound alarming, it is really nature's way of dealing with the middle ear pressure and infection. It should heal in time....a few weeks, but his doctor will need to examine him again. Not all antibiotics work for ear infections. Since I don't know what he is taking, Yolanda, I really can't comment on the appropriateness of his treatment.
