Mystery Ear pain for three monts

This question is mainly for Dr. Moser or anyone else who's ever gone through anything like this. My symptom began when I had my ear suctioned cleaned three months ago. I didn't have any pain at first, but had a strange feeling in my ear almost like it had to pop or was blocked after the suction cleaning. About a week or two later, went back to the ent who said my ear may have been irritated and gave me some drops to use. After using the drops for about a week, I ended up in severe - and I mean severe pain. It was almost like the drops had gone behind my ear drum and the fluid was pressing against my ear. Also had pain deep in the ear. Went to another doctor who said I probably had a blocked eustachian tube and gave me steroids. They didn't help at all. I had a complete MRI, cat scan, and hearing test, and all looks fine. I had a myringotomy also as a test to see if it made me feel better. Now, I can feel that I don't really have any fluid in the ear, however, I sometimes have severe pain in my ear. I'm so confused. I still also have the blocked feeling. My question is, will this ever go away on its own? I've also been on every type of medication, nasal decongestant there is. My face to me also looks a little swollen. I can't really get an accurate diagnosis. Its going on three months now and I'm scared.

Rod Moser, PA, PhD responded:
Three months is a long time. I can understand your concern, but unforunately, I really have no way of predicting outcome. I think it is time for you to have a second ENT opinion.

Perhaps during that ear cleaning, your ENT inadvertently ruptured your eardrum, or it happens sometime later. This could be the reason the eardrops burned so much (I don't know what you were using, however). I suspect this is not your only ear problem....you may also have middle ear and Eustachian tube issues, but this is just a guess since I cant examine you. Obviously, your swollen face is concerning. Do you have any sinus issues?

Please see the ENT again, or consider getting a second opinion. I agree that three months is too long....
