Ear pain due to falling down

Hi Doctor,

My father aged 75 years had fallen on hard surface on 08th July morning after losing his conciousness while he was doing some work at home. There was a minor cut on the back side of his head which has now healed. While he had fallen down he had injured his back. Preliminery investigations show that over the years he has developed spondialysis due to which he might have lost conciousness.

Ever since the fall he has been complaining of pain in left ears and the left portions of his throat. He is unable to sleep with left turn. We have consulted an ENT and after prelimenary investigatins of his ears he has conveyed that the fluid inside has dried up. There are some other tests being also carried out.

Would like to know the what non medicinal measures can be taken which may help to reduce the continous pain he is sufferring and also can be fluid levels in his ears can be increased again. All these days he has not complained of any hearing loss and has been using his left ears also while speaking over phone.

As much as I would like to help your father, a definitive diagnosis would be required before discussing ANY treatment, medical or not. Since I cannot examine him or delve into his medical history, providing a diagnosis-- a specific reason for his ear pain -- is not something that I can do blindly over the Internet. The information in your posting is not sufficient for me to even guess. WebMD is an educational site. Offering specific treatments is not something that I am able to do. I am very sorry.

He will need to go back to the ENT again for a more indepth evaluation, and perhaps, so additional diagnostic studies.
