Irritation on the back of my neck

Let me start by saying I have never had sensitive skin. Not to perfumes, lotions, shampoos...etc. However, for about 2 months now I have noticed that the back of my neck has been getting irritated. Let me try and size this for you....take 3 fingers of your left hand....and place them on the left back side of your neck with just 1 finger actually in the hair line. What your fingers cover is the about as much of the area that is bothering me. It is not the whole back of my neck, or even half.....it is just about a 2 in area. Now for the symptoms> When it does start...it is a burning sensation. Not on the inside of my neck just on the outer skin. So I am sure it isn't nerves or anything. The skin will get real dry feeling but never to the point that the skin flakes or anything. When it is irritated it is a bright red. I would say that about once a week it gets irritated to the point I have to keep a cold cold rag or ice pack on it just to stop the burning sensation. I am just not sure what to do about it. I can do absolutely nothing to irritate it and it will start up and then there are times when I put on lotions or hair spray that it will sometimes get to burning. It is just weird because some days I can put lotion on and be perfectly fine and then some days I look in the mirror too long it will burn. The appearance before my neck gets to burning is fine. No redness, no anything. Perfectly normal. Once it gets to burning it will be red, very rough/dry feeling, No bumps, bleeding, sores, nothing like that. All I know is it isnt a sunburn and I have not used any different body products in the last 4 months or so. Any advise on what this might be?

No, I am sorry, Melissa, but this problem is not in line with the focus of this particular community board - the Ear, Nose, and Throat Community. Besides, it would not be possible for me, or any medical provider, to blindly make a diagnosis based solely on a description. I would suggest that that you see a dermatologist -- someone who can take a more detailed and thorough medical history, and of course, someone who has the ability to examine your neck first-hand.
