Thyroidectomy in a week

Looking for a sanity check. Mother had thyroid out (not sure of diagnosis), 30 yr old daughter had thyroid cancer with huge growth and normal thyroid function. I had reg blood workup 3 weeks ago, several things elevated including calcium. Repeat blood work, all normal including three thyroid levels. Have hoarseness, weak voice that worsens as used. Tyroid ultrasound showed three small nodules (both sides), and enlarged thyroid. Saw ENT yesterday, he scoped my throat thru nose. Found a paralyzed vocal cord. Due to symptoms, vocal cord, and family history he has recommended complete thyroidectomy within next couple weeks. I agree, trust the Doc, highly recommended by others and my family doc. Should I get a second opinion?

A second opinion is in order, but unfortunately I cannot blindly offer you one over the Internet, based solely on the information in your brief posting....

First, I have no ability to examine you first-hand, review your tests/scans, etc. A second opinion should only come from someone who can examine you.

Second, I am not an expert in this particular area. I am a primary care clinician and do not perform surgeries of this type.

As much as I would like to help you, you would need to see another ENT in your area for a personalized, hands-on evaluation. I wish you the very best.
