I was diagnosed with strep 3 wks. ago, at the CVS minute clinic with a strep swab test and I was giving the Z-pack, and I was told the antibiotics didn't work. I had to go to the ER on Thursday due to severe throat pain, and I wasn't giving another examine, I am now taking erythromycin for 3 days, and just last night I thought I was gong to return to the ER for more severe throat pain. and I am wondering have I been misdiagnosed. HELP CONFUSED and FRUSTRATED.

Yes, misdiagnosis is always possible. Incidentally, a Z-pack isn't the treatment for Strep....it is only half the dose you need, so it doens't surprise me that it didn't help. Erythromycin is fine if you are taking the proper dosage for the proper amount of time.

Of course, if you have mono or another viral infection, no antibiotic will help.
