Smelling a weird smell while sick?

I have been sick with a bad cough, high fever, and congestion for about a week. I've gotten somewhat better but I suddenly began to smell something awful from the inside of my nose after waking up in the middle of the night. I tried to get the horrible smell out of my nose by using saline spray and just blowing it excessively but nothing I do will work. First of all, is this normal, and what else can I do to clear my nose of the smell? I'm positive the smell is from inside my nose and not me, just to be clear. Thanks!

    Hi,

You sure you do not have a sinus infection? Go to the drug store and buy a saline rinse kit. One popular brand is Netipot. Most drug stores should carry this brand or others. What you do is fill the plastic pot or bottle, that comes with the kit, with water (never straight from the faucet- make sure it's filtered). You then add a saline packet (in the kit) with the water and shake. Then you rinse your nose (follow the directions, it will give a much more detailed account).

I find that the saline sprays do not work. At least not for me. The netipot works wonders. It really rids your sinuses of some nasty stuff!

    Good luck!
